Rev Samuel NgAOIC’s Master of Divinity program offered me the opportunity to continue actively in my ministerial responsibilities whilst improving myself academically. Theology and practical ministry are taught by practitioners who are also academically qualified. The opportunities to interact and learn from this wide spectrum of international and local teachers add value to graduate studies. This has been translated into tangible personal and ministerial improvement.

The Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling program prepares students to serve as staff servant-leaders involved in non-professional counseling of people in a variety of agency and ministry settings. These can include churches and service organizations.

The courses provide students with a foundation based on biblical principles to supply the values, knowledge, and skills needed to work effectively as a lay counselor. This degree program is well suited for students seeking professional licensure as a counselor and as a people-helper, although it does not meet all the current licensure requirements in Malaysia.

The distinctive of this program is a well rounded program; integrating counseling knowledge, skills, and strategies with biblical foundations and faith practices. When students have completed this program of study, they will have received a comprehensive graduate experience that prepares them cognitively, clinically, and spiritually.

MODEL OF INSTRUCTION
The various elements of the model provide a framework for assessing problem areas and for the design and implementation of preventative and remediation strategies. These are the elements of the model:

  • Systematic and sequential learning.
  • Scriptural understanding of human nature.
  • Focus on emotional and spiritual issues of individuals.
  • Combination of academic instruction on campus and online as well as clinical fieldwork.

LEARNING VALUES

  • Integration as a process.
  • Use of tools and guides.
  • Faith principles integrated within counseling practice.
